(NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of a new ESD protection diode series optimized for space-critical applications with an ultra-small SOD523 (SC79) package measuring 0.8 mm by 1.6 mm by 0.6 mm. Intended to provide ESD protection for data lines in mobile phone handsets and accessories, cordless phones, laptop computers, PDAs, digital cameras, modems, MP3 players, and other compact, handheld electronics, the new Vishay Semiconductors VESDxx-02V offers one-line transient protection of 15 kV (air) and 8 kV (contact) as per IEC 61000 4 2. In addition to meeting the high industry standard for ESD protection required by mobile phone manufacturers, the VESDxx-02V series saves space compared to multi-line arrays while giving designers the flexibility to add protection for sensitive electronics on compact circuit boards exactly where it is needed. The new diode series offers designers a choice of five working voltage values ranging from 1 V to 12 V and maximum clamping voltages from 9 V to 25 V. Low leakage current helps to prolong battery life. The five devices released today are packaged in a plastic case with a UL 94 V 0 flammability rating and are specified for an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. They are available for delivery in tape-and-reel packaging. Samples and production quantities of the new VESDxx-02V ESD protection diodes are available now with lead times of 8 to 12 weeks for larger orders. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, transistors, and optoelectronics and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and ability to provide "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader.
