(NYSE: VSH) today announced that its electro-pyrotechnic initiator chip resistor (EPIC) was selected from hundreds of nominations to be a finalist for this year’s EDN Innovation Awards in the Passive Components and Interconnect category. Instituted in 1990, EDN magazine’s Innovation Awards honor the people, products, and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year. During the month of February, EDN’s worldwide audience of electronics engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among the finalists. EDN’s editorial staff and Editorial Advisory Board also take part in determining the final winners. Readers are encouraged to visit http://www.edn.com/innovation18 to review each of the nominees. Winners will be announced at a dinner and awards ceremony on April 14, 2008, in San Jose, Calif. Selected as a finalist in the Passive Components and Interconnect category, Vishay’s EPIC was specifically designed to meet the demanding needs of pyrotechnic engineers. The resistor is the industry’s first such device to offer Joule effect ignition for very fast firing times down to 50 µs, and a no fire/all fire ratio up to 70 %. With an ohmic range of 2 R to 10 R, the device provides designers with very predictable, reproducible, and reliable behavior. Offered in the standard 0603 case size, with other sizes available upon request, the resistor features easy set up of firing levels, and is compatible to various pyrotechnic compositions, even those requiring no primer.
